Civil Law
Civil law is ruled by the principle of private autonomy. By this is understood general freedom of action and will. Everyone in the field of civil law is free to enter into a legal relationship, or to close a contract with whomever he chooses. In this area, people are able to organise their legal relations without interference by the state. In most cases this is done by civil law contract, the most important civil law tool.
The provisions of general civil law can be found in the Civil Code BGB. Other areas of civil law are, for example, commercial law and corporate law, labour law, copyright and private insurance law.
During the course of a day, each person undertakes a variety of significant civil actions, without being even slightly conscious of this. A common feature of all fields of civil law is the goal of regulating conflicting interests, whether relating to a contract of sale, rental agreement or family and inheritance law.
